A
DVD featuring scenes from the North Norfolk Railway filmed mainly during
the Autumn and Winter of 2008. The long awaited return of the beautifully restored Gresley Quad-Art coach set was probably the highlight of the year. This unique set features heavily on this DVD and is seen during the Autumn Steam Gala and 40s Weekends along with the equally resplendent wooden bodied LNER Pigeon Van. In addition to resident locos N7 69621, WD 90775 and J15 65462, two Great Western designs also visited the Norfolk line. From the Kent and East Sussex Railway came GWR 16xx 0-6-0 Pannier tank 1638 and making its second appearance in North Norfolk was the Furness Railway Trust's 56xx 0-6-2T 5643. Visitors to 40s Weekend were momentarily distracted from events as the low-flying Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster and Spitfire made passes over the line. Engine crews whistled and hooted a salute as the veteran aircraft made their flypast. Finally after an overhaul lasting five years, Ring Haw is seen hauling four-coach Mince Pie Specials between Sheringham and Holt. This popular little Hunslet 0-6-0 tank engine had been the stalwart of the North Norfolk Railway in its pioneering years so it was no surprise that 1982 Ring Haw‘s return to traffic was greeted with a degree of excitement by its followers. Running time 60 minutes Approximately Profits from the sale of this DVD will be donated to Registered Heritage Railway Preservation Groups. |
Great
Central Railway 2008
Rightfully dubbed ‘Year of the Express Engine’, 2008 was an exciting year for the Great Central Railway, as several famous names graced Britain's only preserved double-track mainline. Two of the most notable were ‘End of Steam’ celebrity Pacific 70013 Oliver Cromwell and newly built Peppercorn A1 Pacific 60163 Tornado. Both locos feature together with a host of other distinguished survivors from the age of steam. |
