County
School Station on the Wymondham - Wells-Next-The-Sea Branch.
Closed in 1964 when passenger services were withdrawn between Wells
and Dereham. Freight operations remained through to Ryburgh untill 1981,
after which the track was lifted and by the late 1980s the station became
heavily overgrown and derelict. Breckland District Council bought the
station Initially to use as a visitor centre and restoration began.
County School station was operated as a railway centre by the Great
Eastern Railway (1989) Ltd. That company went into receivership approximately
3 years later and the station was boarded up and soon became derelict
once more. I'm glad to say that County School is now under the wing
of the Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust, and has been fully restored
to it's 1937 LNER condition. |

visited County School quite frequently in the late 80's early 90's when our
children were small.
It was an idel place to spend an quiet afternoon. I remember we took them
on a Santa Special there one year.
I also remember the tea room. 'Great'
